US contractor Tutor Perini has won a $1.66bn contract to design and build six rail stations and 4.8km of an elevated railway in Honolulu, Hawaii.
It will be the third segment of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project (pictured below), the first section of which is already open.
The six new stations, running from west to east, will be at Kalihi, Honolulu Community College at Kapālama, Iwilei, Chinatown, Downtown and the Civic Center.
Utilities Relocation work is currently underway for segment three along Dillingham Boulevard and in Downtown.
Tutor Perini’s contract completion with the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) is due to be finalised in mid-September.
Parsons will act as Tutor Perini’s design subcontractor.
Construction is due to begin in the latter half of 2025, with substantial completion expected in 2030.
A possible fourth part of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project is under consideration, with two extra stations added after the Civic Center station.
